AIN'T LIFE GOOD?

Anchorage, during the dedication of the statue for fallen firefighters held on Sept. 11, 2010, an ex-Chicago firefighter saw the CFD patch on my 11-month-old grandson and took the picture to send back to his buddies in Chicago. Of course, my older son Jason (Anchorage P.D.) is holding him. Ain't life good?

I'll be conducting a 2-day Leadership Class for fire officers, police supervisors, disaster managers and City admin personnel in Cordova (AK) this coming Friday and Saturday (October 16 - 17). It will be held in the fire department training room. There is no charge for this class. Contact Captain Oscar Delpino to attend. If you have my book Fire and Ice, you might want to check out the section on Leadership starting on page 264...go through the sections on planning and conducting confrontations.

Leo Grinberg's concert that I was honored to play sax in was totally sold out. All the performers did an excellent job. It was advantageous for me personally because after playing back-up on Leo's blues piece, the Gospel Sound asked me to work with them in the future. This is Leo singing "I Will Love You More Than You'll Ever Know".I enjoyed to play the riffs on this Donny Hathaway number. I'll have this piece on my audio site on my website.

Next I'll be lecturing at the annual EMS Symposium in Anchorage. You can learn the specifics from the website of the Southern Region EMS Council.

October 15 I'll be reading from "Lazarus on a Spur Line" at the Out North Theater on Debarr near Bragaw Street. http://www.outnorth.org/

For my firefighter friends, I'll be teaching in Juneau September 25th. Check out the Firefighters and Fire Chief's Associations conference guide for the location. I'll be lecturing on the responses to the SwissAire crash near Nova Scotia and the oil spill responses in Alaska.

I'll be joining the Matt Hammer band for their gig July 24th at The Snow Goose in Anchorage and again on August 23rd at the Sluice Box (6:30 - 8:30) at the State Fair in Palmer. I hope to see you all there.
