Saturday, went to the Steinway building downtown for Tom Lambert's concert. Lena Gonzales was the sole vocalist, but the biggest change was that Alto sax player Bill (somethin') left the state and was replaced by Tony James on guitar. Fantastic! Even though the theme was "Women vocalists in Jazz", Lena took up percussions for Herbie Hancock;s "Cantaloupe Island" and Miles Davis' "Freddie Freeloader". Bridget Sullivan (Tom's other singer) wasn't there. I think she was doing at gig at Mad Myrna's that night. She will be singing "Shadows and the Light" on my next CD. Tony’s gonna be in the Spenard gig on the 22nd, and I’m takin’ my ax, too. Hope to see you all there.

I opted to link to this site from Facebook because I can keep the access on the top of the blog by occasionally changing the dates on my postings. My previous website host quit that service, so I'm using blogs and youtube to post my recordings.
I'll be conducting a 2-day LeadershipClass for fire officers, police supervisors, disaster managers and City admin personnel in Cordova (AK) this coming Friday and Saturday (October 16 - 17). It will be held in the fire department training room. There is no charge for this class. Contact Captain Oscar Delpino to attend. If you have my book Fire and Ice, you might want to check out the section on Leadership starting on page 264...go through the sections on planning and conducting confrontations.
Leo Grinberg's concert that I was honored to play sax in was totally sold out. All the performers did an excellent job. It was advantageous for me personally because after playing back-up on Leo's blues piece, the Gospel Sound asked me to work with them in the future. This is Leo singing "I Will Love You More Than You'll Ever Know".I enjoyed to play the riffs on this Donny Hathaway number. I'll have this piece on my audio site on my website.
Next I'll be lecturing at the annual EMS Symposium in Anchorage. You can learn the specifics from the website of the Southern Region EMS Council.
October 15 I'll be reading from "Lazarus on a Spur Line" at the Out North Theater on Debarr near Bragaw Street. http://www.outnorth.org/
For my firefighter friends, I'll be teaching in JuneauSeptember 25th. Check out the Firefighters and Fire Chief's Associations conference guide for the location. I'll be lecturing on the responses to the SwissAire crash near Nova Scotia and the oil spill responses in Alaska.
I'll be joining the Matt Hammer band for their gig July 24th at The Snow Goose in Anchorage and again on August 23rd at the Sluice Box (6:30 - 8:30) at the State Fair in Palmer. I hope to see you all there.
My new CD Cruisin' Anchorage, features all local musicians and vocalists and is easily obtained via cdbaby.com or Amazon.com. It also contains live recordings of my poetry readings at Anchorages' Out North Theater.
Jammin' with Chris Snyder
Chris (in the center) with some of his crew in this photo I stole from his website, invited me to play at Jitters Coffee House in Eagle River Sunday July 13. It worked so well he invited me to sit in at The House of Rock on Spenard in Anchorage. I couldn't make it this time around because of a previous commitment. I'll be the next Monday, however. I haven't met the trumpet player yet but I look forward to blending sax and trumpet tones.
Matt Hammer's CD
Thanks to Matt Hammer for allowing me to solo on track #4 "San Diego Serenade".
